President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday greeted members of Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) on the occasion of the 37th founding anniversary and national assembly of the auxiliary force.
In separate messages on the eve of the event, they wished success of all programmes marking the national assembly and continuous progress of the force.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said, since its inception on February 12 in 1948, the Ansar force has been playing an important role in socio-economic development along with maintaining law and order.
The Ansar-VDP took active part in all historic events starting from the language movement in 1952, he said, adding that the contribution of this force has glorified the war of liberation.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Ansar has a glorious history.
This force plunged into the Liberation War in 1971 in response to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she said and recalled that 12 members of Asnar force presented guard of honour to chief of country’s provincial government at Meherpur Amrokanon on April 17 in 1971.
She recalled with profound respect 670 Ansar members who were martyred in Liberation War and language martyr Abdul Jabbar, who was an Ansar commander.
Since its inception, the Ansar-DVP has been working to ensure security of public
property and socio-economic development, she said, adding that members of this force
are discharging their duties efficiently risking their lives.
The Prime Minister hoped that the force will play an important role in
implementing ‘Vision 2021’ and ‘Vision 2041.’
