President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday greeted businessmen, consumers, VAT administration and its all level officials on the occasion of the National VAT Day-2021 and the National VAT Week-2021.
On the eve of the day, they issued separate messages wishing a success of all the programmes.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said revenue collection is an essential element to continue the development activities of a state, including running the country.
“The majority of the money required for the various expenditures of the country and for the implementation of development projects comes from internal revenue. And VAT is the main source of revenue. Increasing mutual trust and communication between the NBR officials and the business community are essential for realizing VAT properly,” he said.
The President urged all, including businessmen, taxpayers, consumers and revenue workers, to come forward to accelerate the pace of revenue collection.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said with the money received from the revenue, the government spends on the implementation of development activities and the provision of services.
“In order to build a strong and sustainable economic base by ensuring the extraction of these internal resources, our government has introduced a value-added tax system based on time and cost effective modern information technology,” she added.
Sheikh Hasina said one of the prerequisites for the implementation of the Awami League government’s Vision-2041 is to build a rich revenue base through ensuring business and investment-friendly environment.
Both the president and the premier wished the overall success of all the programs taken on the occasion of ‘VAT Day and VAT Week, 2021’.
