President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday issued separate messages on the eve of the “World Health Day” today putting emphasis on creating awareness about diabetes.
In his message, the President said the theme of the day this year “Make healthy choice every day, keep diabetes at bay” is very time-befitting.
He said the government is committed to reach health services to the common people.
The government has developed health infrastructures across the country, recruited required doctors and nurses and enhanced other facilities in the health sector, he added.
The President said diabetes is a preventable and controllable disease. It is necessary to create awareness about diabetes and communicable diseases, he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message expressed the hope that the country’s Vision-2021 and Vision 2041 in health sector would be implemented with the cooperation of all concerned to materialize the dream of the Father of the Nation to build a ‘Sonar Bangla.’
She said the theme of the day this year is time-befitting to create awareness among people about diabetes, which a big health problem in a country like Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister said the greatest Bangalee of all times Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had taken initiatives to expand health services to the union level immediately after the independence.
Following his footsteps, the present government is working relentlessly for the development of the health sector, she said.
The country has achieved international awards like MDG Award and South-South Award for the success in health sector, she added.
