BSS, Dhaka :
President Abdul Hamid Monday underscored the need for habituating the people with the new technologies and their usage as newer and more developed technologies are coming forth everyday.
“Because of newer inventions, newer and more developed technologies are coming forth every day . . . to catch up with the world, we also need to be habituated with the new technologies and their usage,” he said while addressing the inaugural session of Bangladesh ICT Expo-2015 here.
ICT division and Bangladesh Computer Samity jointly organized the expo at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC). The President also inaugurated an app on Bangabhaban. He also went round the expo venue.
The President said, “I came to know that the purpose of the expo is to create business opportunity for ICT products and services by attracting investment and to move forward the ‘Make by Bangladesh’ initiative by reducing dependence on imports.”
Laying emphasis on increasing investment in the ICT sector, Abdul Hamid said more investment in the sector would help create business prospects for ICT products and services which will ultimately help reduce country’s dependence on import of these products and services.
Digital Bangladesh is not a dream rather it is a reality now, the President said Information Technology has now become a tool of people’s empowerment and poverty eradication.
Addressing on the occasion, state minister for ICT division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “The present government is emphasizing on the development of human resources to build a Digital Bangladesh.”
“ICT division will set up specialized computer lab in 118 universities of the country as part of its initiative to develop human resources for ICT sector,” he added.
Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on Posts, Telecommunications and ICT ministry Imran Ahmed, ICT division secretary Shyam Sundar Sikdar and Bangladesh Computer Samity President AHM Mahfuzul Arif, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
