President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday expressed deep condolence over the death of Ekushey Award-winning National Professor Rafiqul Islam.
In a condolence message, the President said that the death of the eminent academician was an irreparable loss to the country’s education and culture.
Hamid recalled Prof Rafiqul’s role as the chairman of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee.
He played an important role in spreading Bangabandhu’s principles and ideals at national and international levels.
The country and the nation will forever remember his contribution to the promotion of the spirit of independence and liberation war in Bangladesh, the president said.
The president prayed for the forgiveness of the soul of the late professor and conveyed his sympathy to his bereaved family.
