Outgoing High Commissioner of Singapore to Bangladesh Chan Heng Wing on Monday made a farewell call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here.
“The non-resident Singaporean envoy told the President that he enjoyed his assignment in Bangladesh and expressed the hope that bond of economic cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow in the days ahead,” President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told newsmen after the call on.
President Hamid, on the other hand, thanked the High Commissioner for his contribution to strengthen bilateral ties during his tenure in Bangladesh and expressed his satisfaction at the excellent relations that exists between the two countries in all respects.
During the meeting the president said Singapore could import larger quantum of high quality Bangladeshi produces like pharmaceuticals, leather and readymade garments, ceramics and footwear to reduce the trade gap.
He also said Bangladesh would keenly welcome Singapore government’ investment particularly in power generation, energy and power, telecommunications and agro-based industries.
The President said power transmission, renewable energy and infrastructure sector could be other areas of Singapore investments and added that skilled Bangladeshi manpower in higher number could contribute to Singapore’s hospitability and other service sectors.
President Hamid expressed the hope that the relations would grow further with more engagements between the two countries on various issues.
The High Commissioner thanked the President for extending cooperation during his assignment in Bangladesh.
Head of the Mission, Singapore Consulate in Dhaka Darryl Lau, Consul, Deputy Director of Singapore’s foreign ministry William Chik, Bangladesh’s foreign ministry officials and secretaries concerned at Bangabhaban were present.
