The President’s Office on Monday invited the ruling Awami League and five other political parties to hold talks with President Abdul Hamid in the 4th phase on the formation of the new Election Commission (EC). “Letters were sent to the office addresses of the six political parties on Monday,” President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB.
According to the Press Secretary, the President will hold talks with Ganotantri Party and Gano Forum on January 8, sit with Bangladesher
Samajtantrik Dal, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Islami Andolon on January 9, and hold discussion with Awami League on January 11. Hamid initiated the formal talks with political parties about the EC formation with holding discussions with BNP on December 18 last. He also held meetings with Jatiya Party, LDP, Jasod, Krishak Sramik Janata League, Workers Party, Bangladesh Nationalist Front, Islami Oikya Jote and Jatiya Party (Manju).
The President is also scheduled to hold talks with Bangladesh Tarikat Federation and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) on January 3, National Awami Party and Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal on January 4, Communist Party of Bangladesh on January 5, Bikalpa Dhara angladesh and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) on January 7. He took the dialogue initiative as the tenure of the current Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad-led EC expires in February next.
