Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, MP, has said the President is holding dialogues with the country’s political parties over constituting the next Election Commission (EC) following the democratic process.
“The President is holding dialogues with all the political parties following the democratic system in the country, which is the best way to form the Election Commission,” he said.
The AL leader made the remarks while addressing a discussion titled ‘Bangabandhu and Significance of Great Victory’, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the country’s victory.
The Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) organized the discussion at its auditorium in the city. IEB President Engineer Md Nurul Huda presided over the event.
Noting that the President has already held dialogues with two political parties, Hanif said the EC will be constituted after forming a ‘search committee’ as per opinion of the political parties. “But the BNP leaders are making negative remarks over the issue,” he said.
Urging the BNP leaders to join the dialogue, the AL leader said, “You should respond to the President’s call to join the dialogue and give your opinion. If you can give better suggestion, the president might consider it”.
He called upon the country’s people to boycott the anti-liberation political parties and resist them politically, saying that those who hold the Pakistani ideology in their minds staying in Bangladesh are the enemies of the country.
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Bangabandhu Chair Professor Dr Syed Anwar Hossain addressed the discussion as the main speaker while AL Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur, and IEB General Secretary Engineer Shahadat Hossain and vice-presidents Md Nuruzzaman and Engineer Khandaker Manjur Morshed spoke at the discussion, among others.
