President Abdul Hamid underscored the need for giving priority to training for achieving the highest standard of professionalism by each member of Bangladesh Army and said strict discipline along with training can take a member of the army to the zenith of professional excellence.
“There is no alternative to training for the development of a disciplined force as an ordinary youth becomes a bright soldier through proper training and hard work,” the President said this on Tuesday while addressing the fifth reunion parade of the regiment of artillery at the Artillery Centre and School at Halishahar in the city.
Abdul Hamid said the present government is committed to building a time-befitting and modern army and to this end it has adopted the plan “Forces Goal 2030” aimed at modernizing armed forces of Bangladesh.
As per this plan, programmes have already been taken to build the army as a more strong force through collecting modern weaponry for them and imparting them proper training, he added.
He said members of the artillery corps are very active in sports and other activities side by side with participation in operations and training for improving their professional skills.
The army is also carrying out different welfare activities for the people such as socioeconomic development, tree plantation and construction of houses for the landless and the people without shelter, the President said, adding that as a result, the people’s confidence in and respect to the army is increasing.
Besides, the army has set up a unique example by standing beside the helpless people during floods, cyclones and other natural disasters, he added.
