President Abdul Hamid on Sunday laid emphasis on increasing the numbers of trained and skilled midwives in the country to reduce mother and child mortality rates at desired level.
“I believe it is possible to check deaths of mother and children through creating huge mass awareness, educating mothers and building skilled midwives,” he said in a message on the eve of International Midwives Day.
Referring to this year’s theme of the day – “The World Needs Midwives, Now More Than Ever” – the President said this theme is very time befitting in the context of Bangladesh. The President said the present government is committed to reach healthcare services at the doorsteps of 16 crore people along with providing healthcare to mothers and children. “Safe motherhood play important role in reducing child mortality rate,” he said.
