President for ensuring affordable cost of medical treatment

President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday urged physicians to ensure quality treatment for the people at affordable costs, saying that many people of the country have no ability to bear the cost of better treatment.
“We’ve to keep in mind that many people of the country have no ability to pay for better medical treatment. So, steps will have to be taken to arrange better treatment for them at affordable costs,” he said.
The President said this while addressing the inaugural programme of the 3rd International Scientific Conference-2016 of Bangladesh Society of Cardiovascular Intervention (BSCI) at Hotel Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden here. BSCI president Prof Afzalur Rahman presided over it.
President Hamid requested doctors to visit once a week or at least once a month their respective villages with a view to providing treatment to the people of their villages.
He said development of health sector should be demand-based, consistent with the capacity of the people. In this case humanity and human welfare must be given emphasis apart from maintaining balance between income and expenses, said Abdul Hamid.
Mentioning that the heart disease is one of the major causes of death in Bangladesh, the President said the death rate due to heart disease is increasing day by day and urged the physicians to make people more aware about this disease.
“I think it is possible to bring down the deaths from heart ailment if people are informed about the causes and prevention of the disease,” he added.
Bangladesh Medical Association President Prof Mahmud Hasan, its Secretary General Prof Iqbal Arslan and BSCI Secretary General Dr Kaisar Nasrullah Khan, among others, spoke on the occasion.
