President for building awareness against militancy, terrorism

President Abdul Hamid on Sunday asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take programmes to create public awareness against militancy and terrorism that hamper rights of the people.
President Abdul Hamid said this when an eight-member delegation of NHRC led by its newly appointed Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban, President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS after the meeting.
During the meeting, Abdul Hamid hoped that the commission will put all-out efforts to uphold the human rights of the common people.
The NHRC delegation apprised the President of the future work-plan of the commission. They said the commission will organize view-exchange programme with cross-section of people for mobilizing public opinion against militancy and terrorism.
The delegation also sought the President’s cooperation for establishing its own office. They also sought guidelines to run their activities more effectively.
Later, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Maj Gen Sheikh Mamun Khaled made a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the VC apprised the President of the activities of the university.
Sheikh Mamun Khaled handed over a report titled “Future Structural Plan: Vision 2030” of the university.
He briefed the President about the various aspects of the vision.
Abdul Hamid asked the BUP VC to take necessary programmes so that the university can keep pace with the other universities of the world.
Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
