President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday asked police to work sincerely with professionalism and ensure services to the people without harassment.
“Ensure services to the people without harassment. . . Give topmost priority to necessary legal aid and advices for service-seekers,” the President told a function on the occasion of “Police Week-2019” at Bangabhaban here.
The head of the state hoped that the police would perform their duty with utmost professionalism, sincerity and honesty being imbued with the spirit of the 1971 liberation War to serve the country and its people.
“The improvement of law and order is a prerequisite for stability and advancement of a country. You will have to play a responsible role to ensure internal security and establish a safe society,” he said, adding, people expect that police would be a more service-oriented and people-friendly force.
Noting that crimes and criminals are not limited within a particular boundary, President Hamid said the criminal gang, using modern technologies, is indulging in local, regional and international crime network.
“Despite becoming a challenge to combat this type of criminal acts, the police are showing their utmost professionalism, efficiency and bravery to face terrorism, militancy and drug abuse,” the President mentioned.
The President lauded the success of Bangladesh police both at home and abroad including in the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions to restore peace and comfort in the society.
President Hamid said the police have also key responsibility to maintain internal security, protect public life and property, establish rule of law and curb terrorism as well as crimes through upholding human rights and democratic values.
About different pragmatic steps taken by the incumbent government to increase and modernize the facilities for police members, the President said these steps are taken to make the police services for commoners easier.
The President also sought everyone’s active and joint participation to materialise the ‘Vision-2021’, ‘Vision -2041’ and ‘Delta Plan 2100’ to build a safe, happy and developed Bangladesh as envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary, Public Safety Division Secretary of the Home Ministry Mostafa Kamal Uddin, secretaries concerned to the President and senior police officials, among others, were present on the occasion.
