President Abdul Hamid asked the members of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) to carry out their responsibility maintaining the chain of command, saying that the PGR has now been established as a separate regiment considering its area of duties and importance. “I hope you will remain loyal to the chain of command in discharging your duties and responsibilities and will help improve the standard of the regiment,” the President said reminding them that the responsibility bestowed upon them by the nation is a matter of pride.
He said this on Saturday while addressing the Darbar of PGR at Shaheed Captain Hafiz Hall at the PGR Headquarters of Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of its 39th founding anniversary. After establishment of the parliamentary system of government, responsibility of maintaining security of the head of the government side by side with the President has been given to the regiment, he added.
“Keep in your mind that any sacrifice in discharging your duties and responsibilities, bestowed upon you by the nation and country, will always be remembered in the nation’s history,” the President added.
He said the regiment will discharge its role with the highest sincerity because they are getting the rare opportunity to uphold the dignity of the Bangladesh Army as well as the country by taking part in various state programmes. The pressure of work of the regiment is gradually increasing, Abdul Hamid said, adding that to reduce the pressure, the manpower of the regiment has already been increased. “I’ve a plan to strengthen the regiment further evaluating the extensiveness of duties in the future . . . my attention as the President will remain focused on your welfare and development considering your duties and dignity,” he added. Later, Abdul Hamid signed the visitor’s book and joined a photo session with PGR officials.
The Army chief, the PGR Commander, high military and civil officials were also present on the occasion.
