BSS, Sylhet :
President Abdul Hamid on Saturday asked the old cadets to utilize their merits, knowledge and skills for welfare of the country and its people.
“It’s the expectation of the nation that as the best sons of the soil you would continue to work to take the country to the zenith of prosperity by utilizing your merits, knowledge and skills, he said while addressing the seventh reunion of Old Cadet Association of Sylhet (OCAS) at Sylhet Cadet College.
Asking the OCAS members to play a role in implementation of “Vision 2021 and 2041”, Abdul Hamid said the government has taken up these plans to materialize the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who wanted to turn the country into “Golden Bengal”.
He termed the country’s cadet colleges as ideal place of education. He said the cadet colleges put emphasis on extra curricula side by side with regular academic activities to flourish the latent merits of students.
“I think, those who get chance to study in cadet colleges are very lucky. Because many students, despite having interest and capacity, don’t get chance to be admitted to cadet colleges because of tough competition,” the President said.
Pointing at the teachers, he said, “The teachers are the architect of building human beings. I believe the young cadets would be able to play a positive role under your close touch of affection.”
Principal of Sylhet Cadet College Commander Md Saifur Rahman and OCAS President Shahnoor Alam also addressed it.
The President also witnessed a display on Liberation War participated by the cadets. Abdul Hamid also cut a cake on the occasion.
Earlier, President Hamid visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shahparan (R) here.
The President first visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) around 1.45 pm, offered Fateha there and joined a munajat seeking divine blessings for wellbeing of the countrymen and peace and prosperity of the country.
Later, he visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahparan (R), offered Fateha there and also joined a munajat.
