Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed said the present condition of the karnaphuli river is horrible and it is doubt whether the river will sustain or not if the situation is continued. He desires immediate protection for existing of the river without fail.
He disclosed it while addressing the 21st founding anniversary roundtable discussion of Channel -I arranged at Ferringhee Bazar ghat today after noon as chief guest. The minister said it is impossible to do everything on behalf of the govt and the GDP increased to 7.8 percent under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister.
He said Bank reserve increased, employment scopes enhanced and the infrastructural development is sighting now. He calls upon all to change the mindset aimed at sustaining the outputs. He also mentioned about the responsibilities of the Chattogram Port to sustain navigability at any cost because CP is a god gifted port and the age of this port near about 2 ,100 years.
He said this Karnaphuli river is very important for the country and it should be protected. Govt has also taken a number of development programs centring the Karnaphuli . He also advised the port chairman for protection of the river and the emphasized the need of dredging . He urges CP to takel responsibilities of the river for renovations and dredging.
Minister also emphasized the need of coordinations among the service bodies and the concerned ministry to go ahead with consolidated plans and programs instead of scattered plans. The Minister assures all sorts of cooperations to Port aulthority to sustain the navigability of river . City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin graced the occasion as special guests. Special guest Port Chairman Rear Admiral Zulfikar Aziz, Chairman of CDA Jahirul Alam Dobash, Vice President of CCCI Tarafdar Ruhul Amin, cWASA Managing Director Engr. AKM Fazlullah, General secretary of Chattogram Press club were present init as special guests.
