BNP on Wednesday said that the incumbent government is worse than the 1/11 army-backed caretaker government because it snatched all the basic rights of the people.
“The present government is more autocratic than the 1/11 army-backed government. They will be compelled to free our party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia soon. It is sad that the government has snatched people’s all basic rights,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, at a doa mahfil at the party’s Nayapaltan office marking the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s 74th birthday. He asked his party leaders and activists to participate in the agitation for freeing Khaleda Zia from jail.
The BNP leader criticized the government for arresting the students who participated in the recent quota and the road safety movements.
“The government does not want to tolerate even the non political students’ agitation. They have brutally repressed the students who waged agitation for safe roads. They have arrested and picked even girls also.”
“In these situations, there is no second option for political parties than waging a strong movement to restore democracy and people’s rights,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
BNP Standing Committee Members Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Chairperson’s Advisory council member Abdus Salam and Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, were present.
