The Sylhet city is ready for Durga Puja from Mohaloya on Tuesday till the Bodhon of Durga to be held on September 25. Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) stepped up stern security measures to control the law and order situation in the port city for Durga Puja.
All preparation has taken by the SMP to control the law and order at 47 Puja Mondop in the city area of Sylhet this year, sources said. Of the Mondops, 25 Puja Mondops are very important regarding the security, the leaders of Bangladesh Puja Utjapon Committee said.
Sources said, following the recent militants activities in Sylhet , the SMP and other law enforcing agencies have taken some special measures for the safety of minority people in Sylhet. Police has already started special raids to nab the suspicious criminals and recover arms from the hidden spots.
According to the sources, a total of 47 Puja Mondops have already been set up at the 27 wards in the city. The SMP planned to provide security at every Puja Mondop in the metropolitan area of Sylhet.
The SMP already submitted requisition for additional policemen for the special security measures to the higher authority. Besides, special teams of police will be deployed for mobile duty at the vulnerable areas in the city.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj says: Kishoreganj District Administration charted out a plan for intensified special security during the holy Durga Puja in the district as well as holy religious festival of Muslim’s Muharram.
DC Kishoreganj Md Azimuddin Biswas assured Puja Udjapon Parishad, Hindu Kalyan of talking foolproof security for smooth celebration of the festival at the meeting at collectorate conference room.
Police Super Md. Anwar Hossain Khan on Monday said that foolproof security has been taken in the district town and 13 upazilas centering the Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the country’s Hindu Community”
At least 379 Puja Mondops would be brought under the security blanket of Police, RAB, Ansewr, Armed Police, D.B and other intelligence agencies will stay inside the procession in plain clothes to fend off any trouble. CCTV surveillance systems will be installed in important Puja Mandop as a part of the security measures. The law enforcers will also remain alent to detect eve teasers.
District Magistrate noted that devotees will have to enter the Puja Mandops though archway and their bodies will be searched. No bags, sharp weapons and flammable substances will be allowed to carry while entering mandaps. Use of fire works and crackers has already been prohibited.
The holy festival of Ashura will be celebrated in the district town as elsewhere in the Zilla on September 30 next with religious festivity..
BSS from Rangpur reports: Preparations are nearing completion to celebrate the five- day Durga Puja, the great religious festival of the Hindu community, with due religious fervour and solemnity in the district.
Beginning from Tuesday, the festival will end on September 30 next through celebration of Bijoya Dashami with immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga, district administration officials and leaders of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) here said.
The Puja mandaps are being decorated now with eye-catching looks and the district, upazila and police administrations and law enforcement agencies have taken adequate security measures to ensure peaceful celebration of the festival.
The district administration has allocated 434.50 tonnes of rice allocated by the government for distribution of 500 kilogram rice among each of the Puja mandaps erected in the district to assist the Hindu community celebrate the festival.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ruhul Amin Mian said distribution of 434.50 tonnes of rice among Puja mandaps authorities would be completed soon to assist the Hindu community celebrate the Durga Puja festivity.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Idol makers commonly known as pauls are passing their busy days in making idols of Hindu deity ahead of Durga Puja festival in Rajshahi city and nine upazilas of the district.
With only eight days left, the Pauls are working round the clock to make sure that the idols are ready in time.
The Pauls hope for earning better earnings this year as the number of puja mandaps has increased in the region.
Kartik Paul, an idol maker of Alupotti area of the city said cost of raw materials including earth, rope, straw, bamboo and jute for idols have highly been increased but their remuneration has remained the same for the last several years.
“Now I have very little time to sleep as the idols are to be completed as per work order”, said Kartik.
“Five to eight workers need 10-15 days for making a large idol while smaller ones need around two weeks each,” he added. He added that about one hundred Paul groups of Rajshahi are now busy making idols for mandops and they have already completed 90 per cent works of making the idols.
Swapon Ghosh, a devotee who supervises a puja mandop in Kumarpara area of the city, informed that preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja have become costlier due to high price of the raw materials as well as increased charges of idol makers, purohits and dhakis.
Tapan Kumar Sen, trustee of Hindu Religion Welfare Trust, told BSS that the Durga puja will be celebrated in 422 puja mondaps including 70 in Rajshahi city from September 26 to 30.
Around 500 idol makers are engaged in making idols for Durga Puja in the region. One of them says he along with his assistant will make 10-12 idols.
Decorations of temples, lighting, and setting up of mandaps have already begun giving a festival look in the city.
Busy putting finishing touches to the idols, they are pleased with the orders they have received from places both within and outside of the district like Chapainawabgonj, Naogaon, Natore, Bogra, Joypurhat, Pabna and and Sirajganj, said some artisans in the city.
