The five-day long Durga puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community will begin tomorrow across the district as elsewhere in the country.
According to official sources, a total of 737 puja Mandaps have been set up in the district this year. Out of the 737 Puja Mandaps, 177 are in Sadar upazila, 137 in Madhukhali, 132 in Boalmari, 44 in Alfadanga, 19 in Charbhadrasan, 37 in Sadarpur, 82 in Bhanga, 64 in Nagarkanda and 45 in Saltha upazila of the district.
In Faridpur pourashava area 69 mandaps have been set up.
Like every year, special security measures have been taken in the district for peaceful celebration of ‘Sharodiya Durga Puja. Besides, law enforcement agencies will be working round the clock to remove traffic congestion in the district during the Puja festival.
Uninterrupted supply of electricity will be ensured in the district to help people celebrate their religious festival in a joyous mood, Power Development Sources (PDB) sources said.
BSS from Gaibandha reports: All preparations have been completed to celebrate 4-day long Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Hindu Community, from Monday in the district with due religious fervor, gaiety and solemnity.
General Secretary of District Puja Celebration Parishad (DPCP) principal Paresh Chandra Saha said a total of 559 puja mandaps have been erected in all the seven upazilas in the district this year.
After visiting different puja mandaps in the district town it was seen that the artists (Malarkars) were giving last finishing and final touches to the images of deities to make the idols very attractive and nice looking to the devotees and the visitors.
The whole district has taken a festive look and the devotees are getting ready to welcome the upcoming event with great enthusiasm.
The festival will conclude on October 22 through the immersion of the idols after celebrating the Bijoy Dashami.
Initiative has also been taken to provide uninterrupted power supply to the puja mandaps at nights to enable the Hindu devotees in offering their puja prayers, archana, kirtons, arati and other religious rituals, said an engineer of power development board.
Superintendent of police (SP) M. Ashraful Islam said tight security measures had been taken in and around of all the puja mandaps of the district by the law enforcing agencies to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the smooth holding the puja festival.
Control room has been opened in all the seven upazilas each during the festival to watch the law and order situation in all the puja mandaps, the SP said adding that RAB personnel and police forces are also patrolling the roads to avoid any untoward incidents during the festival.
BSS from Jamalpur adds: The Hindu community has completed setting up of Durga puja mandaps in the district to celebrate the puja with religious festival from tomorrow.
According to Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad, Jamalpur District unit sources, a total of 193 idols of goddess Durga have been set up in the district this year which is 28 more than the last year.
Sources said 24 Durga puja mandaps in Dewanganj, 18 in Islampur, 53 in Jamalpur sadar, 23 in Madarganj, 21 in Melandah, 42 in Sarishabari and 12 Durga puja mandaps in Bakshiganj were prepared.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Office said district administration has disbursed 93 tonnes of rice among the puja mandaps to celebrate the festival.
When contacted, Siddhartha Sankar Roy, Joint Secretary, Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad, Jamalpur District unit said centering the Durga puja a festive mood is prevailing among the hindu community in the district.
