Preparations for ‘Choitro Sangkranti’ and ‘Pahela Baishakh’ with various colourful programmes and enthusiasm for bidding farewell to outgoing 1423 on April 13 and welcoming Bangla New Year 1424 on April 14, going on full swing in Barisal city.
Volunteers of Charukala Barisal working day and night to organise traditional ‘Mangol Shovajatra (procession of well being for all) ‘ from Barisal City College compound at 8:00 am on April 14 morning with ‘Rakhi Bandhan (friendship ties) ceremony.
Udichi Barisal unit also preparing for Mangol Shovajatra from Brojo Mohun Bidyaloy (B M School) ground at 8:30 am on the same day. Mangol Shovajatra would also be organised by district administration at 7:30 AM on Pahela Boishakh from Barisal Circuit House ground and from different educational institutions at different times of the same morning, said Dr. Gazi Md. Saifuzzaman, deputy commissioner of Barisal.
All Mangol Shovajatra rally would be ended at their starting points after moving on city roads carrying motifs of Bengali folk and daily life.
Charukala Barisal will also arrange a two-day long ”Lokojo Sangskritik Prodorshani ( folk cultural fair) ” and juvenile painting competition at Barisal City College ground focusing on regional life, folk and heritage including preparation and marketing of different handicraft items, performing folk songs and dramas like Jari, Sari, Royani, Hoyla, presenting painting exhibition.
Three-day long ‘Boishakh Utsov’ with ‘Boishakhi Mela’ (Bangla New Year’s fair) and cultural functions arranged by Udichi at B M School ground would also be held.
Shabdaboli Group Theatre at Barisal central Shahid Minar, Planet World Children Park at park premises and local businessmen at Hatkhola will arrange Choitra Sangkranti Utsav, Boishakhi Mela, and cultural programme in the city from April 12-15.

at their office premises to bid farewell and welcome Bangla year from April 13 evening to April 14 early hours.
Under the programs for bidding farewell and welcoming Bangla new-year local businessmen clearing their enterprises observed for ‘Halkhata Utsov’ on April 14.
Udichi Shilpi Gosthi at B M School and Sur Lahori Songeet Biddayaloy, Parantik Songeet Biddayalaya, Anirban Shilpi Gosthi, at Ashwini Kumar Hall premises, arranged cultural program on Pahela Boshakh early morning to welcome new Bangla year.
Gano Shilpi Sangstha will perform cultural shows of folk songs and dramas in front of Barisal Ashwani Kumar Hall on Pahela Boishakh afternoon.
Local administration and law enforcing agencies arranged special measures for safety and security of the people, functions and fair grounds of Pahela Boishakh and related programmes by ensuring undisrupted power supply at night, deploying mobile patrol teams with uniform and plain cloth, check posts at sensitive and key points and continuous vigilance against pick-pocketers and eve teasers, said S M Ruhul Amin, metropolitan police commissioner of Barisal.
Sylhet Correspondent adds: Preparations are afoot to welcome Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year 1424, on April 14 in the Sylhet city and adjacent districts.
Various socio-cultural organizations, including the Sylhet district administration, have chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate the festival by the people from all walks of life.
The law enforcement agencies have taken additional security measures in the city and the districts for celebration of the festival in a cheerful atmosphere.
Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have taken special measures to maintain law and order during the festivity.
The authorities took a decision to deploy 2500 police personnel and nearly 200 RAB members for uninterrupted celebration of the Pahela Boishakh.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) will deploy 1500 police personnel at 30 points in the city and set up 16 check posts at different strategic places.
All entry and exit points of the city will be monitored round-the-clock,
SMP sources said. RAB will also deploy over 200 personnel in different strategic areas in Khulna city and district to maintain law and order, RAB sources added.
Moniruzzaman superintendent of police of Sylhet district, said they will also keep alert over 500 police personnel at important places including upazila headquarters on the occasion.
BSS from Rangpur reports: The district administration at a meeting here on Monday finalised the programmes to celebrate “Pahela Boishakh”, the first day of the Bangla New year, amid traditional festivities on April 14 next. Acting Deputy Commissioner Sultana Pervin presided over the meeting held at her conference room in the city.
Heads of different district level government departments and organisations and educational institutions, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, leaders of socio-cultural and professional organisations, civil society members and local elite participated.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-General) Priyosindhu Talukder, ADC (Education and ICT) Ruhul Amin Mian, Officer-in-Charge of DB Police Zahidul Islam Chowdhury, General Secretary of District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, addressed the meeting, among others.
The meeting decided that the celebrations will begin at 7 am in the morning through traditional “Boishakhi” programmes to be performed simultaneously by artists of Shishu Academy and Shilpokola Academy at the Banyan Tree premises on Zila School ground and Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the city.
The authorities of Rangpur City Corporation, law enforcement agencies other organisations will ensure adequate security measures to welcome the “Pahela Boishakh” in a peaceful atmosphere.
Different government, non-government, socio-cultural, professional and business organisations, educational institutions, will welcome “Bangla Nababarsha” with traditional festivities, fanfare and cultural heritage.
The district administration will bring out the main ‘Boishakhi’ procession carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing ‘Boishakhi’ and folk songs from Zila School at 9 am to welcome the Bengali New Year- 1424.
The celebration of ‘Chaitra Sangkranti’, the last day of the outgoing year, will begin from April 13 next in hats, bazars, groceries, sales centers and important places through arranging ‘Halkhata’ for renewal of business accounts clearing previous dues.
The traditional ‘Boishakhi Mela’, cultural functions, staging dramas, doll-dances, ‘Nagor Dola’, ‘Ha-Du-Du’, kite flying competitions and discussions will be arranged at the district and upazila levels and rural areas to welcome the event.
BSS from Netrakona adds: Preparations are almost complited to welcome “Pahela Boishakh”, the first day of the Bangla new year, on April 14 in the district.
Different socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions chalked out various programs to celebrate the day with pomp and gaiety.
Netrakona district administration designed an official elaborate program in line with the national program to mark the day.
Apart from this, the district and police administration have also taken a fool-proof security arrangement for smooth and peaceful celebration of Pahela Boishakh without any untoward incident.
The day’ program will be formally started with a colorful function entitled “Borsoboron Unustan” (new-year welcoming function) at Muktomona Mancha on the old collectorate office building premises here during the sun-rising period.
In the function, native food-items will be served among people.
As part of the programs, a colorful procession will be brought out in the district town in the morning under the auspices of district administration welcoming the new Bangla year. People from all walks of life irrespective of cast, creed and religion will participate in the rally.
Art, dance and cultural competitions for school children will be arranged at Netrakona Shishu academy in the morning. Improved diets will be served among the inmates of the jails, hospitals and orphanage children family centers across the district.
