Preparations afoot to observe Amar Ekushey in dists

Authorities concerned have completed all necessary preparations to observe the “Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in the Sylhet district today.
The district and upazila administrations, Sylhet City Corporation (SCC), socio-cultural and professional organisations, political parties, private bodies and educational institutions have chalked out daylong programmes to observe the day.
In Sylhet city, the observance will begin at one minute past after midnight on February 21 when CEO of Sylhet Anamul Habib will first place wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here to pay due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs.
Later, Divisional Commissioner D. Nazmunara Khanom and Deputy Inspector General of Sylhet Range Kamrul Ahsan will place wreaths there.
Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar and Police Super along with police officials of the district and police administrations will also place wreaths there to be followed by the other departments and organisations.
Leaders of Bangladesh Muktijuddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL), its associate bodies, and other political parties, professional organisations and common people will also place wreaths there to pay homage to the Language Movement Martyrs.
The other programmes include hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop all buildings, educational institutions, ‘probhat ferries’, decoration of the streets with miniature national and coloured-flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets.
Besides, competitions for the children on drawing, essay writing, hand writing, rendering patriotic songs and sports competitions for the
underprivileged children will be arranged along with screening of documentary films on the language movement.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The common people from all walks in life are now ready to observe the “Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2017” in a befitting manner today in all eight districts under Rangpur division.
According to official sources, the district and upazila administrations and sociocultural and professional organisations, political parties, private bodies and institutions have chalked out programmes to observe the day with due solemnity.
In Rangpur city, the observance will begin at one minute past after tonight when Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu will first place wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here to pay due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs.
Later, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed and Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Khondker Golam Faruk will place wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Mrs Sultana Pervin and Police Super Mizanur Rahman along with high officials will also place floral wreaths there to be followed by the other government and non- government departments and organisations.

BSS from Rajshahi adds: Various government, non-government, volunteer and cultural organizations including the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and the district administration have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner here today.
The programmes include placing of floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting of national flags at half-mast atop all public and private buildings and mourning procession.
There will be miniature national flags and coloured flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets in the city streets.
