As part of the countrywide vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign with the object of reducing the night blindness and growing resistance power in the children against diseases due to malnutrition, district health department will conduct the day long campaign on July 16 in the district.
It was learnt officially from district Health Department that the children numbering 37,300 with the age group of 6 months to 11 months will be administered blue color vitamin A capsule(1 lakh IU) and 2,30,325 children with the age group of 12 months to 59 months will be administered red color vitamin A capsule (2 lakh IU).
It was further learnt that feeding of Vit -A will not bring any side effects or after effects to the administered children. However, there may be some sort of vomiting tendency among some which is nothing serious or a matter of worry. Official sources said that the campaign will be carried out 2100 regular vaccination centers of 79 unions of nine upazillas and four pourasabhas of the district.
A total of 6,300 field level workers of health department and family planning department along with the volunteers will be deployed at the centers to make the campaign successful.
The official sources said that the preparatory works of the campaign are now completed.
Sylhet Correspondent adds: Vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules on National Vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign-16, on July 16 next in the Sylhet city and district. The campaign will begin from 8am and continue uninterruptedly till 4pm.
Over 3,220 supervisors in the 13 upazilas of the district will supervise the ‘A’ Plus campaign at their respective jurisdictions in the Sylhet city and district.
A total of 2,563 vaccination centres will be set up by Sylhet Civil Surgeon office.
Besides 8660 volunteers and health workers in 13 upazilas in the district will carry out the drive in next four days from July 16 as a follow up programme through visiting doorsteps of the households to cover up dropped out children, civil surgeon office sources said.
SCC sources said several mobile teams consisting of 278 members in Sylhet city and 899 members in the district have been engaged to feed oral vaccines to the children at rail, bus and steamer stations as well as other places.
