11th National Parliamentary election: Preparations afoot to hold national polls in Sylhet

All preparations have been taken in the five constituencies in Sylhet to hold the national election on December 30 in a free, fair and peaceful manner. District administration organised a press conference at Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday to present the preparation of the election, with Deputy Commissioner M. Kazi Emdadul Islam in the chair.
Addressing the press conference, Deputy Commissioner and also returning officer of M. Kazi Emdadul Islam said congenial election atmosphere is prevailing in all the five constituencies of the district. He informed journalists that all the officials, including election officers, executive magistrates and members of the law enforcement agencies, are rendering services for holding the polls in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
The DC sought cooperation from all for peaceful holding of the national election following the guidelines and instructions of the Election Commission.
A total of 44 candidates are contesting in the six constituencies of the district, He said, adding that 22,52,764 voters would cast their votes in 992 polling centres in the district. A total of 1525 presiding officers, 15254 polling officers have appointed for conducting the election. Besides, a number of magistrates, police and ansers will be deployed during the polls in the district.
