Preparations afoot for Durga Puja in Khulna

All sorts of preparations for peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, is progressing fast in Khulna city and district.
The five-day ‘Sharodiya Durga Utsab’ will begin on September 26 and conclude on September 30 through the immersion of idols in rivers.
Artists and idol-makers locally known as pauls are passing busy time for making idols of the Goddess Durga.
General Secretary of City Unit Puja Udjapon Parisad Prashanta Kumar Kundu told BSS today that a total of 121 Puja Mandaps would be set up in the metropolitan city while 823 Mandaps in all nine upazilas of the district.
Around 300 idol-makers are engaged in building idols for Durga Puja in Khulna, he said.
While visiting the largest Dharmasava Puja mandap in the City this correspondent found that artisans are now busy painting the images of deities to make the idols attractive to the devotees and the visitors.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police authorities have already taken adequate security measures for smooth celebration of Durga Puja.
KMP Commissioner Humayun Kabir said tight security measures, uninterrupted electricity supply and smooth traffic management would be ensured for peaceful celebration of Puja.
Meanwhile Khulna Police Super Nizamul Haque Molla said a full-proof security measures have been taken at each temple.
A team of police along with ansars would be deployed at the temples during the Puja, he added.
