Preparations for a five-day celebration of ‘Sharodiya Durga Utsab’, the main religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, are going on at more than 600 puja mandops in the city and other parts of Barishal district.
The festival will start on October 4 at more than 41 puja-mandops (alter) in Barisal city and 78 in other parts of Sadar upazila, informed Manik Mukharjee Kudu, secretary of district Puja Udjapon Parishad.
It will conclude with immersion of the idols and images of the deities in different rivers, canals, and ponds amid exchanging greetings of ‘Bijoya Dashami’ on October 8, said Rakhal Chandra, president unit of the parishad.
However high price of raw materials used for making idols coupled with increase of other costs, affects preparations for five-day ‘Sharodiya Durga Puja” in the district, he added.
Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj reports: Kishoreganj District Police charted out a plan for intensified special security during Durga Puja in the district.

Shovon Khan, Hindu Kallan Trusti Advocate Dolon Bhowmik, GP Bijoy Shankar Roy, Trusti Lipu Roy and Kishoreganj Model Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakkar Siddique were also present.
Netrakona Correspondent says: All preparations for smooth holding of Sharodia Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindus, is progressing fast.
District Puja Udjapan Parishad (DPUP) office sources here said, the Durga Puja festival will begin on October- 4 and conclude on October -8.
Meanwhile, the idol -makers and artists are passing a busy time making idols of Goddess Durga and painting images of the deities.
Vice president of the DPUP and member of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad central committee Keshob Ranjan Sarker told BSS that a total of 510 puja mandaps would be erected in ten upazilas of the district while 54 puja mondaps would be set up in and around the Netrakona district town this year.
Netrakona district administration and district police authorities have already taken all preparations for ensuring fool- proof security measures to celebrate the Durga Puja smoothly and peacefully.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district Akber Ali Munshi told BSS here that Netrakona police administration has already taken all round preparations to ensure tight security measures in and around all the puja mondaps of the district for celebrating the festival peacefully.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Preparation for celebrating the forthcoming Durga Puja, largest religious festival for the Hindu community, is going on everywhere in Rajshahi division including the Rajshahi metropolis at present.
People of the community are passing their busiest days with the works of decorating and painting idol and puja mondaps ahead of their festival.
Idol makers commonly known as Pauls are passing their busy days in the final touch works of idols of Hindu deities. With only two weeks left, the Pauls are working round the clock to make sure that the idols are ready in time.
Kartik Paul, who is involved in idol-making profession for over 24 years, has made 34 idols in last two months in the current season and has been working for some others at present. Taka 30,000 to 60,000 are spent for each of the idols, he said.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: A total of 607 Puja mandaps will be erected for the Sharodiya Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu Community, in all the seven upazilas of the district this year.
This was disclosed by general secretary of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, district unit, Dipok Kumar Pal to the correspondent of the national news agency here on Sunday morning.
Of the total, some 101 mandaps would be erected in Sadar upazila, 131 in Sundarganj upazila, 126 in Gobindaganj upazila, 108 in Sadullapur upazila, 61 in Palashbari upazila, 66 in Shaghata upazila, and 14 in Fulchhari upazila of the district, he said.
