The people from all walks in life are in festive mood to celebrate the Victory Day today (Monday) amid huge enthusiasm paying rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.
Officials in the district administrations concerned yesterday said preparations have been completed and adequate security measures taken to ensure peaceful celebrations of Victory Day in Rangpur city, all 16 district and 58 upazila headquarters in the division.
The district administrations, freedom fighters, Awami League (AL) and other political parties, educational institutions, socio-cultural, professional and business organisations have taken elaborate daylong programs to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.
In Rangpur city, the observance will begin with 31-gun salutes at Police Lines Ground, placing of wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’ and hoisting of the national flag at sunrise atop all government, semi-government and private buildings.
Officials of the divisional and district administrations, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), Rangpur Range Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), district police and Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad (BMS) will place wreaths at ‘Arjan.Later, heads of government departments, organisations and institutions, leaders of Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and other political parties and commoners will place wreaths there.The programs include illumination and decoration of the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings with the national flag and coloured miniature posters and banners.A colourful Victory Day rally will be brought out from Begum Rokeya University campus to Zila School ground in the city.
The Divisional Commissioner will raised the national flag before taking salute at a grand march-pasts of freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service and civil defense personnel, students, children, jail guards, scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur Stadium.
The District Information Office will screen documentary films on the War of Liberation and Victory Day in the city.
Improved diets will be served to inmates of hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, shelters of older citizens, day-care and child centres, orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars and vagabond centres.
Special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of martyred of the War of Liberation and martyred intellectuals, progress and welfare of the country and its people at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worship.
Drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation, discussion and sports competitions for women, shooting competitions for men and women, football match, essay competitions, discussions and sports competitions for students, cultural functions and prize giving ceremony has been arranged to celebrate the Victory Day.
Freedom fighters and relatives of martyred freedom fighters will be accorded receptions and the main discussion will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the evening.
Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin said similar programmes have been taken for celebrations of Victory Day in a befitting manner in Kurigram.
Officials said identical programs have been taken to celebrate the Victory Day-2019 with huge enthusiasm, festivity and fanfare in Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha district headquarters in the division today.
Chuadanga Correspondent says: Brisk Preparation are taken in Chuadanga for celebrating Victory Day today in a befitting manner. Chuadanga District Administration, Socio-cultural organisations and education institutions have chalked out elaborate programmers to elebrate in day.
A meeting of eminent citizens was held recently at the Conference Room of the Deputy Commissioner with DC of Chuadanga Nazrul Islam Sarkar in the chair took a number of decisions in connection with the celebration of the day.
BSS from Khulna reports: Khulna District Administration has taken programmes to celebrate the Victory Day here today marking the most precious day when the country was liberated from the clutches of Pakistani occupation forces after a nine-month long bloody War. To observe the day, elaborate programmes have been chalked at a meeting held recently in the Conference Room of Deputy Commissioner with DC Md Helal Hossain in the chair. Officials, educationists, journalists, political and cultural activists of the city attended the meeting. The programmes include – placing of wreaths on the monument of Shaheed martyrs of Gallyamari just after sunrise on December 16. The day will be heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line in Boyra area in the city.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Anwar Hossain Hawlader will hoist the national flag at Khulna Zila Stadium and take salute at march-past and displays by freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service and civil defense personnel, students, children, jail guards, scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at the Zila Stadium.
Khulna Shishu Academy will organize art and painting competitions for children on the occasion. Sports competition for women will be held at Pioneer Secondary Girls School while rare pictures display on Liberation War and books display will be held at Umesh Chandra Public Library.
A discussion meeting on “Universal use of digital technology aiming for building happy and prosperous Bangladesh” will be held at 6pm at Shaheed Hadis Park followed by a cultural programme.
A reception programme for the freedom fighters and children of Shaheed freedom fighters will be held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner around 11.30am.
The programmes also include – illumination and decoration of the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings with national flags and colored miniature posters and banners and Victory Day marathon.

The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), district and divisional administrations and different organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.
The programmes include a 31-gun salute, placing of wreaths at the monuments and Shaheed Minars erected to pay homage to martyrs, hoisting of the national flags atop all public and private buildings, decorating city streets with national flags and colorful posters, and illumination of all public buildings, roads and street islands in the evening.
RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton will open the daylong programmes by placing wreath at Bhuban Mohan Park Shaheed Minar at zero hour tomorrow.
The RCC will accord reception to gallantry award winning and all other valiant freedom fighters at its hall room.
A march past along with physical displays by police, Ansar-VDP, fire service, BNCC, scouts, children and students on the local stadium, victory rally, screening of documentary films on the War of Liberation, friendly football match and sports competitions and cultural functions will also be held to mark the day.

As a part of Victory Day celebration, a grand Bijoy rally was held .
It started from Smrity Amlan of Bhadra crossing and ended on Shilpakala Academy premises after parading major thoroughfares in the morning.
A large number of people, including valiant freedom fighters, members of the civil society and government and non-government officials, joined the rally.
Marking the celebration, Shishu Academy and Islamic Foundation also organized art, cultural, hamd, nath and Islamic song competitions for the mchildren separately.
Valiant freedom fighters in the city and district were also accorded reception at a discussion and cultural function held at Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Saturday.
Meanwhile, educational institutions including Rajshahi University (RU), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Rajshahi Medical
University and Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) have also taken elaborate programmes to celebrate the Victory Day.
