Preparation afoot to celebrate Durga Puja

Preparations for celebration of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community is progressing fast in Sylhet.
The five-day Sharodiya Utsab will begin on October 7 and conclude on October 11 through the immersion of idols in the rivers.
GS of City Unit Puja Udjapon Parisad Rajat Kanti Gupto told that a total 125 Durga Puja Mandaps would be set up in the Metropolitan city while 648 Mandaps would be set up in all thirteen upazilas of the district to celebrate Durga Puja.
Around 150 idol-makers are engaged in making idols for Durga Puja in Sylhet, he said. The largest Puja mandap is at City’s Dariapara area. Artisans are now busy there painting the idols. Talking to this correspondent Bishnu Kumar Paul, an idol maker of Kumarpara Puja mandap in the city said, “We have received Tk around 5,500 to Tk 6,500 last year of each idol making. We hope now that we will receive around Tk 6,000 to Tk 8000 this year,” he said.
Bishnu Paul said he has completed 60 percent of his work and expects to finish it in time.
Montu Kumar Nath, a devotee, who supervises Lamabazar Puja Mandap in the city said, preparations for the Durga Puja have become costlier due to high price of the raw materials and increased charges of idol makers, purohits and dhakis.
BSS from Rangpur reports: Preparations have been continuing in full swing to celebrate the five- day Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Hindu community with due religious solemnity in Rangpur division.
Beginning from October 7, the festival will end on October 11 next through celebration of the Bijoya Dashami with immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga, official sources and local leaders of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP) said.
Additional Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir said, Durga Puja will be celebrated at 5,120 mandaps amid tight security measures in Rangpur division this year.
“To ensure peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja, special security measures would be taken including deployment of police forces along with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Highway Police, Ansar- VDP and community police “.
The artisans are passing their busiest time now to erect the idols of Goddess Durga and give finishing touches with their artistic creativity and colours to make those more charming. Rangpur district administration said, a record number of 864 Durga Puja mandaps (841 mandaps last year) are being erected this time in eight upazilas, Rangpur city and three municipalities in the district.
A meeting on celebrations of Durga Puja would be held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner here on September 28 with Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar in the chair.
BSS from Faridpur says: The five day-long Durga puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community will be celebrated here this year amid enthusiasm as elsewhere in the country.
According to official sources, some 734 puja mondops have been set up in the district this year. Sadar upazilla in 159 mondops, Madhukhali in 139 mondops, Boalmari in 135 mondops, Alfadanga in 47 mondops, Charbhadrasan in 19 mondops, Sadarpur in 37 mondops, Bhanga in 85 mondops, Nagarkanda in 66 mondops and Saltha upazilla in 47 mondops have been set up.
Faridpur pourasabha have been set up 59 mondops.
A meeting of the district Puja Udjapan Committee was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner here chaired by DC Umme Salama Tanzia.
DC disclosed in the meeting that the government will be given 500 kgs of rice at every puja mondop at free of cost to celebrate the festival.
The DC further requested the committee leaders to immerse the idols of goddess at the earlier part of the night. She also said additional security measures will be taken in and around the mondops.
Additional Police Super Kamruzzaman Russel informed the meeting that security in and around the puja mondops have been beefed up of the district to avert any untoward situation during the puja festival. He also informed that traffic arrangements have also recast to avoid jam at the main points of the district town.
To ensued electricity supply in the district during the puja which will be help the people to celebrate the festival in a joyous mood, told some members of the Hindu community.
Awami League president Advocate Subal Chandra Saha, Puja Udjapan Parishad leader Advocate Animesh Roy, Sramik League president Akkas Hossain Miah and secretary of puja udjapon parishad Sukesh Saha and among others addressed the meeting.
BSS from Barguna adds: Preparation for Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Hindu community, is going on in full swing in the district.
According to sources, this year about one lakh Hindu community people will celebrate their festival at 148 mandaps ( idol stages) in the district.
In this connection, making of Durga statues (idol of goddess Durga) is going rapidly at all the Puja mandaps in the six Upazilas of the district, sources added.
The district administration has taken necessary steps to hold the festival peacefully.
