A pregnant woman died from allegedly ‘wrong’ treatment in ‘Al Modina Hospital’ in the city’s Doyaganj area under Jatrabari on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Tahmina Akhter, 20, wife of Ismail Hossain, an inhabitant of Karatali in the city, sources said.
She was buried to a local graveyard on Saturday after post mortem in the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue.
Ismail Hossain filed a case on Saturday with the Jatrabari Police Station against five staff of the hospital, including Dr Asma Jesmin, in this connection.
The other accused are Razaul Karim Dulal, Mohammad Liton, Mr Mehedi and Lipi. Meanwhile, police attested two persons in this connection. They have been identified as Limon and Ripon, both staff members of the hospital.
Locals and relatives if the deceased said that Tahmina was admitted to ‘Al Modina Hospital’ on Friday morning and delivered a female baby through a cesarean by Dr Jesmin.
It is alleged that the doctor, Jedmin, has little practical surgical knowledge. The condition of both the mother started deteriorating after the operation. The woman was huge bleeding and she consequently died at around 11:50pm.
The death of Tahmina sparked protest among the locals, who in turn became agitated and blocked off the clinic. However, the accused doctor and the clinic owner managed to escape. Jatrabari Police Station’s duty officer Sub Inspector Nurjahan confirmed the matter.
