The newborn girl, who was hit by bullet inside her mother’s womb by a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Magura district, is now in a stable condition, said Kaniz Hasina, Doctor of the Paediatric Surgery Department of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
“The bullet pierced her chest, but went out without causing damage to any vital organ fortunately,” said the doctor.
Miraculously, the 35-year old mother, Nazma Khatun, survived after a two-hour caesarean operation at Magura General Hospital on Friday night, said Asaduzzaman Munshi, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Magura Sadar Police Station.
The newborn received bullet injuries when her eight-month pregnant mother was shot in the abdomen during a gun fight between members of rival factions on Thursday, which left one killed and another person injured.
Mother Nazma Khatun from Dolaipar was taken to Magura Sadar Hospital on the night of the incident on July 24.
Her infant daughter was born three months prematurely after doctors operated her, Nazma’s sister-in-law, Sheuli Begum, said.
