TNN, New Delhi :Manmohan Singh-led government will resign on Saturday after recommending to President the dissolution of the 15th Lok Sabha at the last meeting of the outgoing Union Cabinet.President Pranab Mukherjee and the Lok Sabha secretariat are busy preparing to usher in the 16th Lok Sabha and the new government, following the election results on May 16.While Mukherjee has been busy for some months now refreshing his knowledge about every legality in the Constitution book and reading up constitutional history of India and the UK, (the Westminster model), preparing to play his role to the tee, he is also going through precedence in formation of coalition governments in India and elsewhere to ensure that he makes the “right move” in keeping with his repute of maintaining propriety. The Rashtrapati Bhawan is coordinating everyday with the Lok Sabha secretariat to work out details of the swearing-in of the new government and the 542 new members to the 16th Lok Sabha.The tentative date for the joint session of Parliament that the President will traditionally address is being worked out for June 4. Before that, the President is likely to administer oath of office to the most senior member of Lok Sabha, cutting across party lines, as Protem on May 26. The Protem Speaker will chair the first meeting of the new MPs to select the Speaker and deputy speaker of the House. It will take at least 5 to 6 days from May 27 for 542 MPs to take oath. Following that schedule, Speaker and deputy speaker is likely to be selected on June 2 after which the joint session will be held on June 4.
