LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said a realistic and well-planned project will be taken before the New Year 2018 to resolve the water-logging problem in the country’s commercial capital, Chittagong.
“We will give the residents of Chittagong a gift before the beginning of the English New Year by taking a pragmatic and well-orchestrated project to resolve the water-logging problem of Chittagong,” he said this on Sunday while presiding over a meeting to review a project for resolving water-logging at his Secretariat office.
Describing the Chittagong metropolitan city as the central point of the country’s economy, he said, “Functioning of the country’s economy depends on the effectiveness of Chittagong. And for this reason, we are determined to resolve the water-logging problem of Chittagong at any cost.”
The minister stressed the need for a concerted action plan to materialize the project and asked the people concerned in Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), Chittagong City Corporation, Chittagong Water Development Board and Chittagong WASA to find a pragmatic and visible solution to the water-logging problem by December.
Taking part in the meeting, Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud said the pressure of surge water is one of the big problems for Chittagong city.
“We should keep in mind during implementation of the project so that no water can enter the city while pumping it out.”
