Pradeep Kumar Das, suspended officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model police station, has been transferred from Cox’s Bazar Jail to Chittagong Central Jail to appear before a court in a case filed against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Md Kamal Hossain, senior jail superintendent of Chittagong Central Jail, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
“Pradeep Kumar Das was shifted to Chittagong
Jail around 1pm on Saturday. He is scheduled to appear before a Chittagong court on Monday,” said the official.
On August 23, the ACC filed a case against former Teknaf Model police station OC Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife Chumki Karon for amassing wealth worth around Tk4 crore, hiding information of assets, and laundering money.
Md Riaz Uddin, deputy director of ACC, filed the case with the integrated court of Chittagong Divisional ACC office.
The case was filed after a search on Pradeep’s assets and receiving central approval from the ACC in a preliminary investigation, said the official.
The ACC’s investigation against OC Pradeep started back in 2018. On April 20 in 2019, OC Pradeep and his wife were given the notice to submit the statement of their assets.
In June of the same year, OC Pradeep and his wife submitted their statement.
Following their statement, after a long investigation, the ACC has reportedly found information that Pradeep and his wife had amassed assets worth around Tk4 crore.
On August 5, Pradeep was withdrawn from Teknaf police station after he was accused in the murder case of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.
Major Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31.
Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed a case at Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court after the incident on August 5.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah issued arrest warrants against all of the accused after taking the case into cognizance on that day.
OC Pradeep surrendered on the following day and later police took him to Cox’s Bazar.
