Practicing social values to prevent torture against women , girls stressed

Women right activists arranged a discussion meeting at Barishal Circuit House Conference Room on Saturday called for practicing family and social values to prevent torture against women and girls and resist upward trends of this crime by forming social committees.
The prgramme was organised by Nari Oikya Parishad (NOP/ women solidarity forum) Barishal district unit presided by Begum Faizun Nahar, district president and conducted by Jesmin Nahar, district secretary and Tanima Rahman Khan, activist.
Luthfunnesa Khan, lawmaker and founding central president of NOP , inaugurated the discussion, SM Ajiar Rahman, Deputy Commissioner, Barishal was Chief Guest, while Saiful Islam, District Police Superintendent, Al Mamun Talukdar, Deputy Director, Social Services Ministry, Dilara Khanam, Deputy Director, Women Affairs Ministry were special guests of the programmes.
Among others Tahmina Aktar, Dinara Begum of NOP, Shamima Nasrin, Charbaria Union Parishad, Nurjahan Begum, Vice-president, Pushpa Chakraborty, Secretary, of district Mahila Parishad, addressed the programme.
In second session of the programme Luthfunnesa Khan MP and Pushpa Chakraboty answered questions of the participants and consolidated the suggestions, recommendations of the discussants.
The participants focusing on current situation and upward trends of torture against women and girls stressed on practicing family and social values by side of enforcing law and judicial process to prevent torture against women and girls and resist upward trends of this crime.
They also suggested to create area based local committees for preventing social crimes like stalking, torture against women and girls, restricting use of mobile phone by children, not hiding crimes committed against women and girls in fear of damaging social prestige.
