The government has imposed sanction on the practice of lining up primary school students to greet ministers, MPs, top-level officials and others VIPs.
An order from the Primary and Mass Education Ministry on Monday warned of ‘tough’ measures against headmasters and governing bodies of schools in case of violation of the order.
After the Awami League formed the government for a second successive time, students were lined on both sides of the streets in the scorching heat of the sun in different localities to greet the ministers in particular.
Such practice had provoked considerable criticism all over the country.
A ministry official, on condition of anonymity said, “The Prime Minister’s Office forwarded the order to the education ministry on Monday after watching receptions of several ministers in their localities.”
The ministry issued the circular as per the PMO’s order.
It has been observed how primary school students are being forced to stand on the streets to greet ministers, public representatives and top government officials during their visits.
“This is hampering educational activities and having a negative impact on the bodies and psychologies of the students,” said the circular. “It is not expected in any way.”
The authorities have been asked not to do it again in the name of greeting minister in order to maintain a proper educational environment.
The ministry sought everyone’s cooperation to put an end to this practice.
