Information Secretary Kamrun Nahar stressed the use of ‘new media’ or internet-based digital media to reach effectively information at people’s doorsteps.
“Our country is now digital Bangladesh. There is no alternative to using digital platforms, mass media and social media, to efficiently perform the duty of the ministries’ public relations officers,” she said.
Kamrun Nahar said this on Thursday while speaking at a view-exchange meeting at the conference room of the Press Information Department (PID) here, a handout said.
Speaking as the chief guest, she said for efficient public relations, it is very important for the public relations officers to acquire thematic knowledge and basic idea on their field of work.
“That’s why we are arranging regular training sessions. There are also plans to set up public relations cells and audio-visual branches in the PID as the centres of publicity aiming to enhance the capacity of public relations wings of the ministries,” the information secretary said.
Chaired by Principal Information Officer (PIO) Surath Kumar Sarkar, the meeting was also addressed by Additional Principal Information Officer Md Shahenur Miah and Senior Deputy Principal Information Officer Mohammad Saifullah.
Surath Kumar said training sessions will be arranged for the public relations officers on citizen journalism, an effective method of reaching information to commoners.
