Authorities restored power supply to Sylhet city and its adjacent areas on Friday night after some areas had endured an outage for more than 72 hours.
Initially a massive power outage hit at least 1.7 million people in Sylhet, Biyanibazar, Chhatak and Sunamganj after a transformer at a power sub-station of Kumargaon had caught fire on Tuesday morning.
The fire also damaged a Power Development Board transformer and badly affected the distribution system.

She said that they fully restored power Thursday night. Power was restored to most of the affected areas except Sylhet city by Wednesday.
The prolonged power outage in the city caused immense sufferings to people, with hospitals struggling to offer even emergency services. Water shortage also hit households while private and public offices were compelled to keep their daily activities to a minimum level.
The power sub-station where the fire was broken out is operated by the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh. The sub-station was repaired by early Wednesday.
PGCB’s executive director Yakub Elahi Chowdhury said that the cause of the fire was still unknown and was under investigation.
