‘Power supply a must to maintain development’

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, has said power supply is indispensable and there is no alternative to it for upholding the country’s development and production.
For this reason, the present government has attached highest priority to the sector and has been implementing massive and effective projects.
He made these observations while inaugurating power supply activities in Baladiar and Meramatpur villages in Charghat Upazila of the district yesterday afternoon as chief guest.
More than 196 consumers’ facilities were created in the two villages by spending Taka 24 lakh..
Shahriar Alam said the previous massive power debacle and load-shedding has been reduced to a greater extent. At present, people of the country don’t experience erratic power supply. The government has been implementing prompt, short, medium and long-term planning which has helped the power sector attain unprecedented success.
He said the present government has increased power generation to 11,000 megawatts from the previous 3,200 megawatts.
With local Awami League leader Habibur Rahman in the chair, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Russel Sabrin and Deputy General Manager of Natore Palli Bidyuth Samity Ekramul Haque and AL leader Saiful Islam also spoke.
