Power price hike disheartens rural people

The government’s steps for hiking price of power disheartened the people of rural areas and Jessore and adjacent area. Taking to New Nation, they asked the government to step backward from the decision of hiking power prices.
Ikram Ali, a vegetable vendor at Nawapra industrial town in Jessore in his reaction said the price of power is not affordable for him at present. ‘The hiked price enforces extra burden on me’, he added.
Talking to New Nation, Sheikh Saifullah, petite trader in Jessore said the hiked price of power will make my life impossible as prices of daily uses have already crossed the limit.
Golam Mostafa, teacher of a kindergarten school said we are living on hardship as the government has already hiked prices of fuel and power several times causing soaring prices of daily commodities. ‘It will make our life tougher,’ he added.
While talking to New Nation, Iqbal Kabir Jahid, polit bureau member, Workers Party of Bangladesh, said ignoring people’s opinion, the government hiked the price of power without cutting extra prices of fuel. ‘The government should reconsider its decision and cut the price of fuel,’ he added.
Terming the decision of hiking price of power as against the interest of the people, he said people of all walks of life should raise their voice against the anti-people steps.
Jahid Hasan Tukun, general secretary, Bangladesh Fertilizer Association, Jessore district unit told New Nation that the government did not the right decision in hiking price of power. ‘It will local industries’, he added. ‘The government should reconsider the decision, ‘he added.
Kamrul Haque Liku, Assistant General Secretary, National Democratic Front, Jessore district unit told New Nation in his reaction that the government did it ignoring the interest of the people to loot people money.
