The entire country, including the capital Dhaka, is facing a massive power outage from 11:30am on Saturday. The power supply was disrupted with the national grid failure after the Bangladesh-India power interconnection line at Bheramara in Kushtia that used for transmission of 450 Megawatt power, tripped at 11:30am, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) sources said. “We are working on finding out the problems in supplying lines. Hope the power supply will be normal within a short time,” PGCB Managing Director Masum-Al-Beruni told risingbd.com over phone. However, attempts to restore power generation across the country have almost totally failed. After the countrywide disaster at 11:30am, some power plants resumed generation to some extent leading to power supply to some areas, including part of capital Dhaka. But those failed again in the afternoon. Meanwhile State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu said he is expecting to restore “almost normalcy” in power generation by evening. Electricity supply has resumed on emergency basis at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and major hospitals, he said. A committee has been formed to investigate the power failure across the country, the state minister said adding that the body will submit a report in three days after investigation. –risingbd.com
