Sate Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Tuesday claimed that the country’s electricity generation has crossed 15000 megawatt (MW).
“The government has taken an initiative to connect bridge between the different universities and power-energy sector in order to get new idea from the learning youths. So, the students of universities will be encouraged to invent fresh thought for power and energy sector,” he said while addressing a press conference at Biydut Bhaban in the city yesterday.
The press conference was held at the advent of ‘The National Power and
Energy Week-2016′ scheduled to begin today (Wednesday) aiming to create public awareness about power and energy conservation and their efficient use.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the Week at the International Convention Centre, Bashundhara in the city at 10 am, which will continue till December 10.
The inaugural function will be followed by opening of an exhibition of power and energy related products and services.
Local and international farms from public and private sectors will be participating in the fair to showcase their products and services.
Replying to a query, he hinted that a good news about adequate gas reserve in the country.
“The government is expected to import LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) by 2018 and there is a possibility for gas at Bhola,” he added.
About 125 public and private institutions will display various technologies relating to power and energy through 320 stalls. Some 200 students from 50 universities will join the weeklong program.
During the energy and power week, the state minister said that a total of four international seminars would be held on the issues including technologies of coal based power plant, energy efficiency and international best practices in power and energy sectors.
