The candidates aspiring to be Mayor and Councilor from both Awami Leugue, Jamaat and the BNP are doing dawn-to-dusk canvassing so that voters would cast their votes in their favour Campaigns for the Pourashava polls at Three Pourashava in Sylhet have gained momentum.
Voters are seen debating amongst themselves about candidates, rival candidates, their strategy and also national politics in hotels, restaurants, local markets and tea stalls. many voters were seen apathetic as the BNP-led 20-party alliance did not participate in that election. But, the Pourashava poll is an exception.
During a visit to Golapgonj Pourashava, this correspondent found that makeshift campaign offices were established which are covered with candidate posters.Supporters of the candidates have also been doing election campaigning from 2pm to 8pm using sound systems.The roads and streets were seen filled with digital banners and black and white posters.
District Returning Officer said: Election campaign has been going on in full swing. We are yet to get any complaints against any candidates regarding violation of electoral law. We will take legal actions if we receive any complaint.
In Jokigonj, A total of 6 candidates are contesting for Mayoral post of them, 31 parson are contesting in councilor post and 8 for the post of reserved for women Councilor. The mayor candidates are : Freedom fighter Hazi Kholil Uddin (AL), Professor Bodrul Haque badal (BNP), Abdul Malek faruk (JAPA), Kazi Hifzur Rahman (Independent), Jafrul Islam (KM), Faruk Ahmed (Independent).
In Golapgonj, A total of 7 candidates are contesting for Mayoral post of them, 43 parson are contesting in councilor post and 10 for the post of reserved for women Councilor. The mayor candidates are : Jakariya Ahmed Paplu (AL), Gulam Kibriya Chawdhury Shahin (BNP), Aminur Rahman Lipon (Independent), Shuhed Ahmed (JAPA), Aminul Islam Rabel (Independent), Sirajul jobber Chawdhury (Independent), Aminul Islam Amin (KM).
