Poura polls campaigns start in Sylhet Divn

The election to sixteen municipalities of Sylhet Division is going to be held next month and the aspirants for the posts of mayor have already started campaign door to door.
 The sixteen municipalities are : Jokiganj, Khanaighat, Golapganj in Sylhet district, Chatak, Jogonnathpur, Sunamgong Sadar, Dirai in Sunamgong District, komalgong, Moulabibazar Sadar, Sreemongol, Kulaura, borolekha in Moulabibazar district and Nobigong, Habigang Sadar, Madubpur in Habigong .
The election schedule will be announced by the end of November or early December, when voting date might be set in the last week of December, said the District Election Officer.
 The probable candidates are from ruling Awami League (AL), BNP, Jamaat, Jatiya Party, Gono Forum and a few islamic parties, sources in the parties said.
In line with the announcement of the upcoming countrywide municipal election on December 30 this year, possible candidates from ruling Awami League (AL), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiya Party (JP) and others are running their respective election campaign with full speed. The candidates have already pasted colourful banners, posters, festoons and graffiti on walls of different establishments even on trees depicting their particular electoral pledges and seeking vote to ensure their win. Besides mayoral candidates, possible councillor candidates are also in the election field pursuing their respective campaigns.
The candidates are participating in public functions including religious and social ones and are trying to motivate people to cast their valuable votes on their favour.
 From the last Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, and Durga Puja, the possible candidates started their campaigns gradually. As days are passing by, the campaign field is becoming more jubilant with various activities.
Convener of District BNP Adv Nurul Haque said, “This time the election will be held with party symbols, and our central and local committees have protested the announcement. We will participate in the election after discussing with the central committee.”
