Potholes causing untold suffering to pedestrians in Dupchanchia

A lot of potholes on Dupchanchia-Zianagar road causing suffering much of vehicles and pedestrians here in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra district due to negligence of concern authority for few months.
Seven kilometer- long road from Dupchanchia upazila haspital Crossing to Islampur Crossing has become unfit for vehicular transport, due to numerous potholes, causing many sufferings of the townspeople, schools, collages, madrasha going students as well as teachers. This road is being used daily for transporting kitchen goods from Akkelpur to Dhaka. For this reason, the farmers are getting a handsome price of the crops.
Now, it is an acute problem for the Islampur dwellers because the road has not been repaired as yet. An eyewitness Soleman of the road urged, the road becomes a death trap at night because there is not enough light on the street for easy movement of the pedestrians. Auto rickshaws often get overturned when they fall into a pothole, causing injuries to passengers, he added. A rickshaw peddler Ruhul Islam said “We cannot ply rickshaws for earning money for our livelihood on the road as the wheels fall into the holes. So, many of us have leave the pulling profession,” “A lot of road accidents occur every day and suffer much both drivers and passengers besides many of have to embrace with immature death,” he added. “It is very difficult to walk to college as the road is water-logged in most areas from Ismalpur more to collage premises,” said Sultana, a class eleven student of Mahila university collage.
 “Traveling on the road is very painful for patients who come to Dupchanchia Sadar Hospital and other clinics that are beside the road.” she added. Dupchanchia municipality mayor Belal Hossain said, “We have already called a tender only for the part of municipality roads repairing different segments in my area, and it will be repaired after the rainy season so we have sent a letter to the ministry concerned, seeking more fund for repairing the road” “The road has not been repaired after 2010 during the time of former mayor Zahangir Alam, but we try to keep it usable by laying bricks and carpeting,” he added. When contracted LGED office said, Roads and Highways Department and the Municipality are responsible for maintaining the road so we can’t take proper step against bad shape having favor desire of construction.
