The growers of early variety of potato in Rangpur Division are hopeful of achieving bumper production during the current season as a conducive weather condition has been prevailing in the region.
Harvesting of early variety of potato has already began in few areas of the region and it is expected to get momentum within next one month. The growers are happy as they are getting good prices of their produce.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of Rangpur sources, DAE has set a target to bring 1,72,000 hectares of land in 8 districts under potato cultivation in Rangpur division this season and the farmers are expecting a bumper production of the crop.
Kashem (55), a farmer of IKorchali village under Taraganj upazila in Rangpur said “This year I have cultivated the crop on two bighas of land and hoping for a good profit from the produce”, he further said.
Goljar (45), a Potato cultivator of Mirzapur village under Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur said that he has been cultivating early variety of potato for the 4 years and also earning good.
Deputy Director of DAE Rangpur, Zulfikar Haidar said farmers are getting satisfactory profit by cultivating early variety of potato. For this reason the cultivation of the crop is increasing day by day in the division.
