Potato cultivation changes Halima’s fate

Halima Khatun lives at Ramerbhanga village of Sathkhira Sadar Upazila. She was married to Abdus Samad in 2013. His husband Samad is educated, completed graduation. He tried to be wage employed after his graduation but his effort went in vain. On the other hand, being married the cost to survive increased.
 At one point, he became frustrated. Samad’s anxiety provoked Halima and she tried to inspire her husband to be self employed suggested to do alternative something as self employment. Samad become courageous by his wife.
They jointly took an initiative to change their fates. They started to search options adopting their surroundings. At one point, Halima asked her husband to cultivate Tomato. Samad agreed.
But they needed capital to start the cultivation. Halima knew about DAM Foundation for Economic Development (DFED) for money arrangement earlier. She took loan 20,000 tk. from the institution in 2013 and took a lease of land-1 bigha from his Brother-in-law. Later, they did not have to pay heed back. Now after 3 years they maintain their family with the earned money. Samad said, DFED has extended their support to conquer poverty. We want to expand our business as there is a comprehensive demand of potatoes in market.
