Application of efficient emergency response systems for ensuring proper post-earthquake managements along with early preparedness could substantially reduce the extent of losses of human lives.
The opinion came at inaugural ceremony of the third batch three-day ‘ Basic Training on Search & Rescue, First Aid & Fire Fighting for Urban Volunteers’ at the Training Centre of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station on Thursday.
Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and ‘Pollishree’ have been organising the training with technical assistance of Fire Service & Civil Defense under ‘Enhancing Inclusive Disaster Resilience in Bangladesh’ project being funded by Oxfam.
The National Alliance for Risk Reduction & Response Initiatives Consortium and European Commission Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection are assisting in arranging the course to institutionalise the Community-based Disaster Management Preparedness Model at ward levels.
Expert trainers of the Fire Service and Civil Defense have been conducting the training course with participation of 50 urban youth volunteers from different wards of RCC to enhance their efficiency for post- earthquake managements.
The main objectives of the training course are enhancing skills of the urban volunteers for conducting post earthquake emergency rescue operations, providing first aids and fire extinguishing to reduce losses of human lives.
Acting Police Super Abdullah Al Faruk launched the training course as the chief guest in the inaugural ceremony with Deputy Assistant Director of Kurigram Fire Service & Civil Defense Station Sirajul Islam Tarafder in the chair.
Member of District Disaster Management Committee Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, Project Coordinator of ‘Pollishree’ Shahanaz Parveen and Senior Station Officer of Rangpur Fire Service & Civil Defense Station and Course Coordinator Shahidul Islam addressed.
