Post-monsoon rains spawned by a depression in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday inundated parts of the capital city causing traffic jams and miseries to commuters.
The Met office recorded 16 mm rainfall in the capital in three hours from 6am to 9 am on Saturday morning. The downpour continued throughout the day.
The Met office has forecast more rainfall across the country including Dhaka due to the impact of a low formed in the Bay of Bengal.
In Dhaka, commuters suffered as they had to wade through knee-deep water in many areas. Buses were packed with passengers and the number ofa
 CNG-three wheelers and rickshaws were fewer than normal. Rain water caused traffic congestion at Kawranbazar-Farmgate and Moghbazar-Malibagh compounding miseries of the commuters on a weekend holiday.
Other worst-hit roads and alleys included Chankerpool, New Market, Dhanmondi, Green Road, Panthapath, Mohammadpur, Khilogaon, Arambagh, Malibagh, Mouchak, Kazipara and Shewrapara of Mirpur, Kalynpur, Bhasantak, Badda, Bhatara, Rampura, Farmgate, Jatrabari and Kadamtali, went knee-deep water.
Overflowing gutters and sewage lines spilled stinky garbage on to the streets.
The rain badly hit pavement dwellers, street children and construction workers. Many commuters used umbrellas and raincoats, while others simply walked in the rains.
