Post-flood agri-incentives distributed among 69,096 affected farmers in Rangpur Zone

The government has already completed distribution of huge incentives in terms of seedling, seed and fertilisers worth Taka 7 crore among 69,096 flood-hit farmers of five affected districts in Rangpur agriculture region.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, the beneficiary farmers already completed transplantation of late variety Aman seedling and started cultivating early varieties Rabi crops on one bigha of land each.
Under the post-flood agri-rehabilitation programmes, the government distributed Aman seedling worth Taka 7.64 lakh among 1,146 affected farmers and 42,400 packets of vegetable seed worth Taka 13.78 lakh among 5,300 farmers in the region.
The flood-hit farmers got cost-free seed, Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP) for cultivating early vegetables, wheat, maize, mustard, ‘Mashkalai, groundnut, mungbean and ‘Til’ under the programme.
The government through the DAE distributed 380 tonnes wheat seed worth Taka 1.36 crore among 19,000 flood-hit farmers with 20 kilogram (kg) each to assist them for cultivating the crop.
The DAE distributed 44 tonnes maize seed worth Taka 1.54 crore among 22,000 flood-affected farmers with 2-kg each and 12.40 tonnes mustard seed worth Taka 7.50 lakh among 12,100 flood-hit farmers with one-kg each of these districts.
Under the programme, the DAE distributed 12.50 tonnes summer mungbean seed worth Taka 7.50 lakh for distribution among 2,500 farmers of Rangpur and Kurigram districts with 5-kg each for cultivation of the crop.
The flood-affected 6,400 farmers of Rangpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha got 32 tonnes of ‘Mashkalai’ seed worth Taka 25.60 lakh with 5-kg each for cultivation of the crop.
Besides, 150 flood-affected farmers got 1.50 tonnes groundnut seed worth Taka 1.29 lakh with 10-kg each and 500 farmers got 500-kg summer ‘Til’ seed worth Taka 22,000 with one-kg each for cultivation of these crops in Kurigram alone.
Under the programme, each of the beneficiary farmers got 20-kg DAP
fertilisers worth Taka 460 and 10-kg MoP fertilisers worth Taka 130 for cultivation of wheat, maize, mustard and ‘Til’ on one bigha land each.
Besides, each farmer got 10-kg DAP fertilisers worth Taka 230 and 10-kg MoP for cultivation of mungbean and 10-kg DAP and 5-kg MoP worth Taka 65 for cultivation of groundnut and ‘Mashkalai’ on one bigha land.
With the assistance, 12,410 farmers of Rangpur, 15,580 of Gaibandha, 19,968 of Kurigram, 10,638 of Lalmonirhat and 10,500 farmers of Nilphamari districts were benefited in recouping the crop losses they incurred during recent floods.
Talking to BSS, Rangpur Regional Additional Director of the DAE Md Shah Alam said the beneficiary farmers already started cultivating early varieties Rabi crops on one bigha of land each and completed re-transplantation of the distributed Aman seedling.
4,168 tonnes VGF rice distributed
Distribution of 4,168.61 tonnes of rice under the special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme completed here on Thursday to assist the poor of the district in celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
Sources in the district administration said the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief earlier allocated the rice for distribution among over 4.16 lakh poor and distressed families in all eight upazilas and three pourashavas in the district.
The upazila administrations concerned with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees distributed the rice among the listed VGF card holder families under strict supervision of the district administration.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Faridul Haque said distribution of the VGF rice completed yesterday so that the beneficiary poor families could celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
“Each of the selected beneficiary family received 10 kg VGF rice this time on the Eid-ul-Azha festivity in all 76 unions under eight upazilas and three pourasabhas in the district,” he added.
Under the programme, 264.75 tonnes of rice were distributed among 26,475 beneficiary families in Sadar upazila, 878.09 tonnes among 87,809 families in Mithapukur, 667.67 tonnes among 66,767 families in Pirganj, 539.09 tonnes among 53,909 families in Pirgachha, 442.03 tonnes among 44,203 families in Kawnia, 498.28 tonnes among 49,828 families in Gangachara, 548.17 tonnes among 54,817 families in Badarganj and 269.03 tonnes among 26,903 families in Taraganj upazilas.
In addition, the authorities concerned distributed 30.81 tonnes VGF rice among 3,081 poor and distressed families in Badarganj pourasabha and 15.40 tonnes of rice among 1,540 families each in Haragachh and Pirganj pourasabhas.
