A lot of times there are some unwanted moments in life. Events that happen in a hurry, which is beyond our imagination. At that time, the mind was agitated to adapt to the changed unfavorable situation. Mental pressure is created, which is called ‘stress’.
This stress causes not only mental changes but also a number of significant physical symptoms. Stress disturbs the balance of certain chemicals or neurotransmitters in the brain, increases the deficiency of hormones secreted by various endocrine glands, and changes the rate of contraction and dilation of the heart, resulting in abnormal breathing. Then it may seem natural that there is a physical problem. But it is also important to keep in mind that stress can be a factor.
In December 2019, an outbreak of corona virus occurred in Wuhan, China. The World Health Organization later officially named the virus COVID-19. The virus is thought to have originated in Wuhan’s seafood market. About 14.1 million people in 212 countries have been infected with the corona virus and killed more than 594,209 people (Source: WHO). About 200,000 people in Bangladesh have already been infected with the corona virus and about 3,000 people have died from the virus. At first only the people of Dhaka city were affected but now the people of the village are also being attacked. People are now more affected mainly due to unconscious living and not maintaining social distance. In COVID-19, people have become housebound in lockdown; on the other hand, it has also affected people’s psychological issues.
In the case of a person with corona, the cause of mental problems is fear of death, fear of physical symptoms. It takes a long time to recover and social ill-treatment towards the patient or living alone away from the family for a long time also plays a role in this. And in the case of a large population without corona, the cause of mental crisis is corona fear, sudden stagnation and temporary imprisonment in conventional civic life, economic downturn in individual life, over reliance on social media and media, uncertain future, family unrest in stagnant life, social unrest, etc
Symptoms of a mental health crisis at this time include unreasonable anxiety, irritable mood, slight anger, sleep disturbances, panic attacks, fatigue, depression, excessive addiction to smoking or drugs, suicidal tendencies, etc.
According to the United Nations (UN), 47 percent of health workers in Canada need psychological support in the ongoing corona virus crisis. Depression among health workers in China is 50 percent; and in Pakistan, 42 percent of health workers have mild mental stress, 26 percent are in severe mental crisis! According to the UN data, parents in Italy and Spain reported that 6 percent of children in the current crisis were inattentive. In 39 percent of the children, restlessness and irritable mood were seen. Nervous weakness was found in 36 percent of children and 31 percent of children suffered from loneliness. Another survey in the United Kingdom found that 32 per cent of young people in the country had a significant decline in mental health.
In such a situation, the general rules for maintaining good mental health are to keep one mentally energized, to smile openly. Creating a new healthy daily routine may a changed life. Family members should be given adequate time. 7-8 hours of sleep daily and a balanced diet will also help keep someone mentally fit in this situation. Doing light exercise daily, anyone can also do yoga to keep themselves mentally energized. Income-expenditure balance should be maintained. Regular phone contact with relatives, friends. The work that brings joy should be done. Such as drawing pictures, listening to music, reading books etc. Children in the family should be given time and older members should be taken care of separately. Religious discipline should be followed as much as possible. Remember, being infected with corona does not mean dying. Excessive anxiety has a negative effect on the body’s immune system, and there is no substitute for staying mentally strong in order to recover from the virus.
Corona is a global pandemic. Not with fear, but with awareness and strong morale, we must win against it. Obedience to health rules as well as humanity, moral fortitude, religious discipline, mutual amity, social responsibility will win our Corona War.
We are all looking forward to a corona-free beautiful morning. On that new day, we will love and respect each other more; we will take care of ourselves and our family. Our human qualities will increase, we will be sympathetic.
