A Chittagong court on Sunday sentenced a man to 10 years’ imprisonment in connection with a recovery of 24 gold bars from him at the city’s Shah Amanat International Airport in 2014.
The convict is Md Selim Uddin, 36, son of Sultan Ahmed of Fatikchhari upazila in Chittagong.
Selim, who is now in jail, was also fined Tk 10,000; in default, to suffer three more months.
According to the case statement, Selim was arrested with 24 gold bars, weighing around 2.8Kg and worth nearly Tk 1 crore, at the airport when he landed there from a flight coming from Dubai on January 24, 2014.
Customs official Abdullah Al Masum later filed a case against him with Patenga Police Station.
